Beaches of Mykonos
The beaches of Mykonos in Greece are famous for their golden sand and crystalline waters, as well as for their tourist and sport facilities and the vibrant fun they offer. Most of the island's beaches lie on the southern coast and are sheltered from the wind. The most famous and popular ones are Paradise, Super Paradise, Ornos and Psarou. The northern coast beaches are less organised and better suited to those seeking quiet.
Aghios Stefanos
Two kilometres north of Mykonos Town lies the well-developed beach of Agios Stefanos. The area has many accommodation options offering a wide range of stays. Along the beach you'll find a varied selection of excellent restaurants and cafés. The beach can be reached by taxi, private vehicle or by regular bus service from the town centre.
Aghios Yiannis
On the western side of the island, facing Delos, the relatively small and picturesque beach of Agios Yannis offers white sand and a series of small coves and restaurants. Made famous by the film "Shirley Valentine", many appreciate this corner of the island for its calm and relaxed atmosphere. Regular bus services from town provide easy access throughout the day.
Agrari
Agrari remains one of the quietest beaches on the southern coast. Medium-sized, you'll find a restaurant and a beach bar. There is no local bus service, but Agrari can be reached by private vehicle, taxi, shuttle or by boat from Plati Yialos. Thanks to its proximity to Elia, this beach is also easily reached on foot from the Elia bus stop.
Elia
Easily reached by bus from Mykonos Town and a regular boat service from Plati Gialos, Elia is the largest beach on the southern coast. Quality accommodation and the island's only water park complete the offering — full nudism is allowed.
Ftelia
Exposed to a steady onshore wind, Ftelia is little frequented by sun-seekers but is loved by windsurfers. Located in the central-northern part of the island, this beach is the starting point for reaching Panormos Bay. A restaurant serves visitors. Access is only by taxi or private vehicle.
Kalafatis
One of the oldest beaches, the long bay of Kalafatis is famous among windsurfers who enjoy the steady offshore breeze. Plenty of accommodation is available, along with a wide range of water sports. Easily reached by regular bus service from town. Many small restaurants in the area specialise in fish dishes.
Kalo Livadi
Located in the south of the island in a long open valley, Kalo Livadi is part of a group of southern beaches reachable only via the Ano Mera road. Regular bus services from town give access to this medium-sized beach in a quiet setting, where both accommodation and restaurants can be found.
Ornos
Located on the south-western corner of the island just 2 km from town, this area has recently developed more than other locations. There are many hotels and places to eat and drink, plus supermarkets, butchers, pharmacies and more. Ornos is considered the perfect spot for families thanks to its wide beach and sandy seabed. Access from town is easy via the frequent local bus service.
Paradise
Probably the most famous beach on the island, Paradise built its fame and name thanks to the hippies who started visiting in the 1960s. Paradise Beach mainly caters to a young crowd, with plenty of tourist facilities: cafés, snack bars, beach bars, mini-markets, clubs and a Diving Center. Transport to and from the beach is by direct bus from town or by boat from Plati Gialos.
Super Paradise
Practically without hotels and with no local bus service, the exclusivity of Super Paradise Beach is due to the gay community that frequented it in the past. This beautiful beach, set in a small bay, has good restaurants, clubs and bars that echo the energy of the town's nightlife all day long. The beach is reached by taxi, private vehicle or by regular boat service from the Plati Gialos pier.
Plati Gialos
One of the oldest and most established beaches in the south of Mykonos. Popular with families thanks to its many services: restaurants, beach bars and water sports. It is the departure point for many southern destinations reachable by boat: Paranga, Paradise, Super Paradise, Agrari and Elia. Bus service from town is very frequent.
Paranga
Paranga beach is very popular with the trendy young crowd. It sits in a picturesque setting where restaurants and beach bars pumping music from morning onwards create a party atmosphere. Public transport to the beach is provided by regular buses from town and a boat service from Plati Gialos beach.
